I have 4 Bachmann DCC locomotives that I’ve been using on my DC layouts for 10 years. I’m not sure that all DCC equipped locomotives will do the same thing. Much of the DCC functionality doesn’t work since DCC is needed to talk to the controller in the engine but the speed control works with DC. I would check the instructions that came with the locomotive to see what they say. If no instructions, then check manufacturer’s web site to see if they say anything about DC running. A quick check of Athearn’s web site indicates that their DCC locomotives will run on DC. Good Luck and Have Fun. Ray

I have never bought a DCC ready locomotive or one with a DCC chip already installed as all my locos are pretty old. However, all the DCC chips that I have installed, have a programming option that includes running on DC. Perhaps you could ask a friend who has DCC to programme your loco to include DC running. Good luck.

Most modern DCC decoders will run on DC. Many are dual-use. See the instructions that came with the unit. DC locomotives, however, will be destroyed if they are put on a DCC track while it is energized. DCC is AC to a DC locomotive. Rob.
